Division Review

Fall Tuesday 8-Ball

Poolhall Junkies Opens a Two-Round Lead

Eight weeks are complete in the Fall Tuesday 8-Ball Division, and Poolhall Junkies has created the largest lead we've seen at the top in several weeks.

Poolhall swept Classic Rock 3–0 to reach 16½ rounds, two clear of Lettuce Win at 14½.

Behind them, VGJ and Unleash The Dragon both sit at 14 rounds, while Blues Cues has surged to 13½ despite having already completed its bye.

The upper standings remain close, but Poolhall finally has some breathing room.

Poolhall Sweeps Classic Rock

Poolhall Junkies followed last week's 1½-round tie with a dominant 3–0 sweep over Classic Rock.

Poolhall also won 12 of 18 individual games, pushing its season game record to 67–77.

That continues to be one of the most interesting stories of the Tuesday format. Poolhall still has a losing individual-game record overall, but its handicap-adjusted round results have been outstanding enough to produce a division-leading 16½ rounds.

Ryan Persaud and Pascal Bilodeau each went 5–1, helping Poolhall strengthen its hold on first.

Classic Rock remains at 10 rounds after going without a round for the first time since Week 1.

Lettuce Win Moves Into Second

Lettuce Win and GTA Boys split the night 1½–1½, but the individual games leaned heavily toward Lettuce at 11–7.

Jon Wong produced a 5–1 night, while Val McMurray finished 3–3.

Lettuce moves to 14½ rounds and takes sole possession of second place.

What started as a middle-of-the-pack opening month has turned into one of the steadiest climbs in the division. Lettuce has now collected 9½ rounds over its last four matches.

VGJ Sweeps Into the Lead Group

VGJ continued its recent surge with a convincing 3–0 sweep of Bonnie's Ball Breakers.

VGJ also dominated the individual games 13–5.

Vince Brant went 5–1, while Gord Proud also posted a 5–1 performance.

VGJ has now collected 10 of the last 12 available rounds and reaches 14 rounds overall.

That puts them level with Unleash The Dragon on both Rounds Won and Games Won at 14 rounds and 87 games won.

Under the league's official tiebreak order, their earlier head-to-head result becomes relevant if needed. Unleash defeated VGJ in their opening-week meeting, so Unleash owns that third tiebreak even though the displayed standings currently list VGJ ahead.

Blue Balls Slows Unleash

Blue Balls picked up one of the night's most interesting victories, defeating Unleash The Dragon 2–1.

Unleash actually won more individual games, 10–8, but Blue Balls captured two of the three handicap-adjusted rounds.

Bill Van Blaricom delivered a perfect 6–0, 60-point night, one of the best performances of Week 8.

Unleash reaches 14 rounds but loses more ground to Poolhall, while Blue Balls climbs to 11 rounds and remains within range of the large chase group.

Blues Cues Delivers the Night's Most Dominant Result

The strongest raw performance of Week 8 belonged to Blues Cues.

They swept Here For Beers 3–0 while winning an incredible 16 of 18 individual games.

A Blues Cues player posted a perfect 6–0, 60-point night, while Justin Muia added a 5–1 performance.

The sweep moves Blues Cues from 10½ to 13½ rounds, only half a round behind VGJ and Unleash.

Blues Cues has also already completed its bye, making its current position especially noteworthy compared with several teams around it that still have theirs ahead.

Pho Cues Continues to Climb

Pho Cues defeated Give Us a Break 2–1 and moves to 12 rounds through seven played matches.

Brandon Cormier went 4–2 and continues an excellent Fall session at 28–14, 66.7%.

Pho has now collected 9 rounds over its last four played matches, including its earlier sweep of Blues Cues.

Give Us a Break reaches 11 rounds but continues to slide from the early-season lead group.

Jinxies Boys Beats Hot Shots

Jinxies Boys earned a 2–1 victory over Hot Shots.

The teams split their individual games 9–9, but Jinxies captured the extra round and moves to 11½ rounds.

Hot Shots remains at the bottom of the table at 5 rounds despite another excellent performance from Mike Draker, who went 5–1 with 56 points.

Draker now sits at 35–13, 72.9%, one of the strongest full-season records in the division.

Rack Em Up Beats BSB Despite Losing More Games

Another handicap-driven result came between Rack Em Up and BSB Boys.

BSB won the individual-game battle 10–8, but Rack Em Up captured the match 2–1 in rounds.

Herb McSpadden led Rack Em Up with a strong 5–1, 57-point night.

The defending Summer champions move to 9 rounds, while BSB Boys also sits at 9.

Two Perfect Nights Lead Week 8

Week 8 produced two perfect 6–0, 60-point performances:

Bill Van Blaricom — Blue Balls
Blues Cues player — 60 points

There was also a large group at 5–1, including Herb McSpadden, Jon Wong, Rick Brant, Pascal Bilodeau, Justin Muia, Mike Draker, Ryan Persaud, Vince Brant and Steve Neild.

Among players who have appeared regularly throughout the session, the individual standings now feature:

Blues Cues player — 32–10, 76.2%
Mike Draker — 35–13, 72.9%
Bill Van Blaricom — 30–12, 71.4%
JP Joseph — 34–14, 70.8%
Brandon Cormier — 28–14, 66.7%
Gerry Cunningham — 27–15, 64.3%

Draker currently has the most individual game wins at 35, while the current percentage leader among the regulars sits at 76.2%.

Top 4 Race Begins to Separate — Slightly

After Week 8:

Poolhall Junkies — 16.5 rounds

Lettuce Win — 14.5

VGJ — 14, 87 games won
Unleash The Dragon — 14, 87 games won

Blues Cues — 13.5

Pho Cues — 12
GTA Boys — 12

Jinxies Boys — 11.5

Blue Balls, Give Us a Break and Here For Beers follow at 11.

For the first time in several weeks, there is now a little separation between the leading group and the middle of the standings — but only 2½ rounds separate second from eighth.

And with bye weeks occurring at different points in the schedule, the number of matches played continues to matter when comparing teams.

Week 9 Could Shake Up the Top 4 Again

October 27 gives Poolhall Junkies a chance to protect first against Bonnie's Ball Breakers, while second-place Lettuce Win faces Classic Rock.

VGJ vs. Blue Balls is another important matchup after both teams produced big Week 8 results.

Blues Cues faces Give Us a Break, Pho Cues takes on BSB Boys, GTA Boys meets Hot Shots, Here For Beers plays Jinxies Boys, and Rack Em Up faces 3 Some.

Most importantly near the top, Unleash The Dragon has the Week 9 bye, giving Lettuce Win, VGJ and Blues Cues an opportunity to create separation while Unleash is idle.

Eight Weeks In

Week 8 gave Poolhall Junkies the clearest lead of the Fall session so far.

A 3–0 sweep puts Poolhall two rounds clear of the field, while Lettuce Win continues its steady climb and VGJ has become one of the hottest teams in the division.

Blues Cues produced the night's most dominant performance and has jumped to within half a round of the Top 4, while Blue Balls slowed Unleash despite losing more individual games.

The handicap system was again a major part of the story: Blue Balls beat Unleash despite an 8–10 game result, Rack Em Up beat BSB despite losing the individual-game count, and Jinxies won two rounds from a 9–9 split.

With nine weeks remaining, Poolhall has finally created some space at the top — but the fight immediately behind them remains extremely tight, and Unleash's upcoming bye could reshuffle the Top 4 yet again.
